The Company

Biotope Plus Ltd, founded in 2007, specializes in biological sewage purification. The company, headed by scientists and engineers with years of experience in the aforementioned field, has developed a unique method for purifying sewage. The company focuses on domestic and urban sewage needs, of populations from 500 up to 30,000 individuals. Our devices are suitable for remote settlements as well as towns, new neighborhoods, army and government facilities. We upgrade existing wastewater treatment plants for a complete biological tertiary treatment level and reducing excessive sludge quantity. Our products are also suitable for the industrial and agricultural markets. The company set up its first prototype bioreactor in the southern part of Israel (The Negev). The reactor is fully operational and is designed for purifying up to 150 m³/day of domestic wastewater.

The Problem

Waters that are used for drinking, manufacturing, farming, and other purposes are degraded in quality as a result of the introduction of contaminating constituents. Such as organic wastes, suspended solids, bacteria, nitrates, and phosphates.

Biotopeplus Technology

Biotope Plus Technology - is a continuous-flow bioreactor comprising of fixed microorganisms on the special inert carrier, and a customized air supplying system.

Biotope Plus reactor is a steady, easy-care biological wastewater treatment system for harmonious, self-adapting growth and degradation of microorganisms on the inert carrier. The trophic chain (predator-prey model) in the bioreactor decreases the exit of excessive sludge by 150-200 times, compared with existing technologies.

The BPR (Biotope Plus Reactor) inflow is directly from the sewage pipe line and require only a mechanical treatment. The main principle - a creation of three-dimensional succession of hydrobionts (trophic chain), where the optimum environmental conditions corresponds to each type of hydrobionts and from section to section (consecutively) one association of attached microorganisms is changed by others. The volume of biomass practically does not change or is subjected to insignificant fluctuations. Furthermore, for maintaining the equilibrium condition of microorganisms vital activity each section of the reactor is provided with a customized air supply system. Thus, the air and the concentration of contamination in the sewage are the limiting factors that determine equilibrium condition of the biomass in the bioreactor.

The constant rate of substrate utilization is regulated by the above limiting factors and maintained at a steady level for each section of the BPR. The biomass concentration on each section of the BPR correlates with the microorganisms' environment. Nitrification and Denitrification are performed as part of the process.
