Formaglow Ltd.

The Company

Active since May 2003 within the framework of the startup companies at the Dimona technological incubator.
Formaglow developed a new chemical procedure of taking well-known chemicals and combining them in special packing that enables to produce multi colors and shape glowing devices (2 and3D), which give the ability to manufacture a family of products by using disposable light source with diversity of flexible materials.

The Problem and the Need

In the field of light glowing products which are based on chemical reaction that currently exist in the market are several types of light sticks that use inner galas ampoules and are very limited by their shapes, sizes, activation methods, safety (the inner fragile galas ampoules are highly sensitive and tend to break while shipping and handling and in many incidents the product arrives to its destination used and not effective) and their production costs. Therefore, there was a need for new innivative technology that can solve these limitations and enable creation of a thin surfaces with no glass ampoules and with a varied possibilities of sizes, shapes, colors and graphics, controlled operating, high safety, and much lower production costs.

Market Potential

The initial product that the company decided to focus on is a glowing greeting card; the greeting card market in the USA only, is generating nearly $7.5 billion in retail sales in one year and the by-products for this enormous market are the glowing flags, banners, stickers, coasters, signs and much more. The company intends to penetrate with its glowing products to the safety, security and the military markets that are much bigger and assessed by hundreds billion of dollars per year only in the U.S market. In addition there are more potential markets like the advertising market, the toy market (glowing balloons) and more.

Technology (product) Description

The technology: while mixing well-known chemicals a glowing light appears. packing these chemicals in a special method without the usage of glass, enable to produce multi colors and shape glowing devices (2 and3D), the product is made up of a few layers of special Laminates and Polymers which were developed by the company.

Innovation and Intellectual Property

Advantages over existing products:

1.Controlled and precise activation and operating in different phases.
2.Illumination of any shape and size (2 and3D).
3.Glass free products.
4.Controlling over the intensity and the time of the illumination including the turning off of the reaction (the
light).
5.Improvement safeties and efficiency.
6.Possibility of varied colors (mixed or not) and graphics.
7.Flexibility.
8.The possibility of pre test of the product.
9.Shock resistant.
10.Cost-effective efficiency.

The inventiveness of this technology comes to fruition by the total freedom of the shape and size of the many possible products and applications thanks to the unique external operating system of the product that enables the multiplicity of colors, graphics and shapes and the times of activations (all at ones or in different phases) to the best of the company’s knowledge there are no other Chemiluminescent technologies which give these multiplicity solutions. In addition the cost-effective efficiency compared to other products in the field is higher.
Formaglow Ltd. is holding a U.S Patent of glowing balloons and additional patent application and a comprehensive PCT application have been submitted as well. In addition, Formaglow undertook a professional patents’ survey.

Practicability

The company has an R&D machine in its laboratory (not for commercial use) that produces commercial quality products. In addition the company has an approved standard from the Israeli Standards Institution that is identical to the U.S and European standards of the ASTM “Toy safety”.

Mr. Shai Hermesh (MBA), Director in the company.

Company Status

Formaglow has began the process of raising US $ 3 millions from potential investors and strategic partners. In addition, a special machines building company invested in Formaglow a commercial production line for producing the first generation of products.
A non-exclusive producing and marketing agreement was signed with large manufacturer in Israel, which has clients in Israel and Europe (Back To Back condition). Formaglow will place its machine at the manufacturer’s factory and the production is planned to begin within three months from now.
