Solar panels will soon cover Dimona municipality’s rooftops

On the 28/12/2009 the Dimona municipality has published a tender for the establishment of solar installations (PV) on top of 50 roofs of public buildings in Dimona. The potential capacity of those facilities is 2.5 megawatts of solar power. The construction is estimated at 50 million NIS. This is actually a sequence of power facilities of 50 kilowatts, stretched throughout the city of Dimona. This project is the first step to transform the city into a green and environmental friendly city. This is a joint Dimona-Rotem initiative, whereby both parties share the same “green” vision and are fully committed to it. Many other renewable energy and environmental projects are planned to be launched within the coming year, including large PV and solar thermal fields around the city, waste treatment and water treatment facilities, clean energy innovation center at Rotem Industrial park and more.

The 50 rooftop initiative is a 20 year BOT project (design, installation, operation and maintenance).
